Project Lifesaver:

A program vital to the safety of people with disabilities is Project Lifesaver nationwide program administered locally by VBPD. People with certain disabilities are eligible for the program which fits them with a transmitter unit allowing the police locate the person in the event they wander away from home. The program relies on volunteers to meet with assigned clients, clean and test the transmitter unit, and replace the battery approximately every 30 days. Volunteers receive training on the entire process and each volunteer is typically assigned one or more clients within their police precinct. Volunteering takes about an hour or two each month to fulfill the volunteer duties.
